While I prefer to get my nutrition from whole foods, protein powders are a great way to boost your intake. I often use them in my morning smoothies to help create a balanced meal and keep me satisfied throughout the day. Lately I’ve been experimenting with using protein powder in baked goods, raw desserts and other snacks. Manitoba Harvest kindly sent me their new line of hemp-based protein powders and I couldn’t resist making a tasty treat!
These Chocolate Hemp Protein Balls are packed with protein, fibre, healthy fats and a hint of natural sweetness. They make the perfect healthy snack or breakfast on the go and are filled with good-for-you ingredients. The base of these protein balls is made up of cashews, almonds, dates, nut butter, cacao nibs and Manitoba Harvest Hemp Yeah! Chocolate Protein. They’re a long-lasting source of energy that will not only curb your hunger, but keep you feeling full.
These no-bake energy balls are simple to make and take minutes to throw together. They can be easily modified to your liking by switching up the ingredients, such as using walnuts instead of cashews. You can also swap out almond butter for your favourite nut or seed butter and use vanilla protein powder instead of chocolate.
While they make a great snack on their own, I like to set aside a few “toppings” to roll them in. Some of my favourites include hemp seeds, coconut flakes, almond meal and raw cacao powder. They are deliciously rich and the texture is ultra-soft, which makes me feel like I’m eating chocolate truffles. They totally satisfy my sweet cravings – without the roller coaster blood sugar ride!
