Happy Global Smoothie Day! While summer has officially come to an end, I’m not ready to give up my morning smoothie just yet. Don’t get me wrong – I’m looking forward to warm nourishing bowls of oatmeal, buckwheat pancakes and homemade granola. But there’s nothing as satisfying as stuffing a blender full of high quality, nutrient-dense and detoxifying fresh fruits and vegetables!
Starting your day with a green smoothie is a great way to give your digestive system a break and support your detoxification organs. The Lean Green Detox Smoothie contains easy-to-digest raw fruits and vegetables like dark leafy greens, cucumber, pineapple and a detoxifying superfood known as chlorella. It’s loaded with nutrients, fibre, antioxidants, enzymes, protein and energy-boosting power!
Let’s take a look at the ingredients and some of their health benefits:
- Apple – rich in antioxidant phytonutrients such a quercetin, which contribute to anti-aging, fight inflammation and protect against oxidative damage
- Bee Pollen – contains all essential amino acids, possesses antimicrobial and antiviral properties making it a natural cold and flu fighter
- Chlorella – powerful detoxifying agent with a high concentration of chlorophyll and more protein than spirulina
- Coconut Water – boosts hydration and replenishes the body with electrolytes (such as potassium, magnesium and sodium) after exercise, sports or drinking alcohol
- Cucumber – rich in fibre and water, which supports healthy skin, digestion and the elimination of toxins
- Ginger – contains anti-inflammatory compounds, supports the immune system, reduces symptoms of motion sickness and nausea
- Kale & Spinach – energy boosting, nutrient-dense, high in antioxidants vitamin A and C, vitamin K, calcium and iron
- Pineapple – contains bromelain, an enzyme that assists with protein digestion and helps the body absorb nutrients more efficiently
- ¾ cup coconut water
- ⅓ cup cucumber, chopped
- 1 apple, chopped
- ½ cup frozen pineapple
